Recap of 12/11/05
1. In the race for rewards for faithfulness in our spiritual life and service, we must master our bodies by self-control and self-discipline. Rather than a self-indulgent lifestyle, we must master physical passions and appetites.
2. Paul considered himself not only a herald who summoned others to the race and announced the rules of the race, but as a participant himself in this race.
3. He ran the race as we should with discipline, purposefulness, and dedicated effort so that he who called others to the race wouldn't himself be disqualified for the reward. Disqualification for the reward does not mean loss of salvation (which is not the topic of this passage) but either:
-loss of rewards (1 Corinthians 3:10-15), or
-being removed from the race prematurely (i.e. God's discipline would cut short his life, 1 Corinthians 10:6-10; 11:30-32
